We are quickly approaching May 12th, which as everyone surely knows, is National Limerick Day! I believe that this is an event worth observing, which is sure to bring more fun and joy into our lives. To celebrate, we encourage you to write your own limerick about any topic you choose by the May 31 deadline and submit it at the front desk of the library. You may also email it to [email protected].
On June 1st, your limericks will be judged by a panel of library staff on (1) rhyme and meter; (2) sense of humor; and (3) creativity. Winners in three age categories of CHILDREN through age 12; TEENS 13 – 17; and ADULTS 18 and up will each receive a $25 cash prize and the great honor of having their limerick posted on the library’s social media. We look forward to reading your silly limericks! If you are not sure about what a limerick is, we will have fact sheets available to pick up at the library. Here is an example of a limerick to get you started:
A library in Cambridge aspired,
for verse, to be quite admired.
Its patrons wrote lines
of poetry and rhymes;
and the winners, a cash prize acquired!
