AUTHOR TALK: Hidden Disgrace
Today | April 20 | 12:00 pm at MRL – Tune in on Facebook Live
Join author David Fierst as he discusses his book, Hidden Disgrace. In his book, Fierst pierces through the veil of descriptions of Native Americans as either savages or “Noble Savages” and describes them as real people with both strengths and weaknesses. Likewise, it takes a hard look at the notion that the conquest of North and South America by Europeans was “inevitable” and was, in reality, the result of deliberate choices. Fierst’s presentation takes a straightforward approach to review tragic events of the past. However, he neither succumbs to pessimism regarding the possibility of whites and Indians living in harmony nor engages in denial of the occurrence of those past tragic events.
David Fierst is an attorney living in Dayton, Ohio. Hidden Disgrace, his first book, is the result of a visit to Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota in April 2014, after which he grappled with understanding the reasons for the harsh living conditions there.
