The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon

In February, the Evening Book Club will dive into The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon, a riveting historical novel based on the true story of Martha Ballard, an 18th-century midwife whose detailed diary provides a rare glimpse into early American life. When a man is found frozen in the Kennebec River in 1789 Maine, Martha is drawn into a web of secrets, crime, and justice as she uses her knowledge and skills to uncover the truth. Blending rich historical detail with suspense, The Frozen River is a gripping tale of resilience and courage.

Join us for an engaging discussion on Tuesday, February 25, at 6:30 PM at the library. New members are always welcome!

This month the Senior Center Book Club will read Where the Coyotes Howl by Sandra Dallas, a poignant historical novel set in the vast prairies of 1920s Wyoming. The story follows schoolteacher Ellen Webster as she arrives in the small town of Wallace, where she falls in love with a kindhearted cowboy, Charlie Bacon. As they build a life together, they face the harsh realities of frontier living—both its beauty and its hardships. With Sandra Dallas’s signature storytelling, this novel captures the resilience, love, and sacrifices of those who sought to carve out a life in the rugged West.

Join the group to discuss on Wednesday, February 26, at 1:00 PM at the Senior Center. New members are always welcome!
