While not a Cope Environmental Center event, Opt Outside is a nationwide movement that encourages everyone to spend time outdoors the Friday after Thanksgiving. Opt Outside invites people to skip the sales and screens and instead immerse themselves in nature with family, friends, or solo. Take a hike, explore a new trail, or simply enjoy the fresh air — however you choose to join in, it’s all about connecting with the outdoors. We hope you’ll spend the day discovering the beauty of nature around you!

The prairies here at Cope are crucial for supporting biodiversity, improving soil health, and storing carbon. Their native plants prevent erosion and offer a habitat for pollinators like bees and butterflies, vital to agriculture and natural ecosystems. Prairies also serve as an outdoor classroom, fostering environmental education and sustainable land stewardship. By preserving these ecosystems, we ensure a lasting natural legacy for future generations.
