September brings a change of pace to the natural world. The days begin to cool, summer wildlife is preparing for the season ahead, and the trails offer something new to discover around every corner. This month, get outside, explore Cope and see what signs of fall you can find.

|
As September brings the start of fall migration, Cope is once again participating in Indiana Audubon’s Echoes of the Night Sky Project for our third fall season. Through overnight audio recordings, Cope helps researchers track migrating birds and better understand migration across Indiana. This spring, recordings from 41 nights documented 29 species, including 12 new species for Cope, and brought our total to 132 species and more than 8,000 individual birds documented since the project began in 2024. From warblers to rare visitors like the King Rail and Eastern Whip-poor-will, you never know what might be passing overhead while we’re asleep!

105 kids got to explore, discover, and connect with nature at Cope this summer. Through Explore the Outdoors Nature Camp, children spent their summer getting hands-on with the natural world through hiking, wildlife encounters, outdoor adventures, and plenty of time exploring Cope’s 130 acres.
Your donations help make opportunities like this possible by supporting Cope’s mission to promote sustainability through education and demonstration. Because of you, more children have the opportunity to experience Cope, build a connection with nature, and create memories that can last a lifetime.
