Dear Friend,
Each spring, as migration fills our skies and wetlands with life, we are reminded just how vital birds are to the health and beauty of our world. We invite you to support our 7th Annual Cope Birdathon, taking place May 1–17.
The Birdathon is our largest annual fundraiser, with a goal of raising $50,000 in just two weeks. The Birdathon is more than a celebration of birds; it directly supports property upkeep, habitat restoration, research, and educational programs at Cope. Birders from across the country and beyond take part, and last year alone recorded an incredible 705 species, each sighting contributing valuable data to conservation efforts.
At Cope, this work fuels our research and stewardship. In collaboration with partners like the Indiana Audubon Society, Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary, Hayes Arboretum, and Earlham College, we are learning how birds use our property and applying that knowledge to better manage habitats. These efforts not only protect birds but also inspire a growing community to care about the natural world around them.
Take the Sora, a secretive wetland bird whose distinctive “ker-wee” call returns each spring. With over 85% of Indiana’s wetlands lost, restored habitats at Cope provide critical stopover space for species like the Sora. Demonstrating the real impact of conservation supported by donors like you.
