Trafficking with an Inmate

In mid August of 2023, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office became aware of an allegation of a civilian corrections officer trafficking Suboxone strips into the jail to be given to an inmate in exchange for money. Detectives with our Criminal Investigations Unit began an investigation which led to evidence of the wrongdoing. The employee, Adrian Blanton, age 24 of Richmond, was immediately terminated upon these findings. Following the termination , the investigation continued which resulted in the recovery of several Suboxone strips.

After the completion of this investigation, all evidence and reports were handed over to the Wayne County Prosector’s Office for their review and a request for an arrest warrant for this former employee. On today’s date a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Sheriff Randy Retter shared, “I was more than disappointed in the actions of this former employee. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office prides itself on professionalism and integrity - This was not a reflection of those values. Our team is held to a high standard, not just by me, but most importantly the public. I will always ensure that our staff are held accountable for their decisions, internally and criminally if warranted.”

All arrests and criminal charges are mere accusations. All persons are innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
